FAQs - DNS

Can I have multiple domains that all point to one website?

Web forwarding allows for an unlimited number of CyberLynk-managed domain names to point to a single existing Web site. These are also called redirects. Please contact support@cyberlynk.net for more information.

Can I take advantage of Web forwarding (redirect) if I have registered a domain name with another company?

No, Web forwarding is only available to you CyberLynk is hosting your domain name.

How do I set up a website with CyberLynk?

1.)If you are looking for your own domain name please go to http://domain.cyberlynk.net and fill out the appropriate forms.

2.) If you are looking to create a website without a domain, CyberLynk provides this service free of charge. Please email support@cyberlynk.net requesting a personnel website.

I need DNS changes made for my domain where Cyberlynk is listed as doing DNS.

Please contact the Cyberlynk support team by sending an email to dnsadmin@cyberlynk.net. Please state the domain name, new IP address and all important information.

What are CyberLynk's DNS servers?

CyberLynk maintains 2 DNS server's:

ns1.cyberlynk.net = 206.54.254.3

ns2.cyberlynk.net = 206.54.254.15

What is Name Based Hosting (Host Headers)? Do I need an IP for each domain on my server?

Name based hosting is a method used to allow a server to host multiple domains with only one IP address. You do not need an IP address for each site; in fact, you only need one IP for the entire server. Name based hosting does not affect the performance or appearance of the domains hosted. It's also a good way to economize on IP usage.

Why do I get a "DNS" or "Host not found" error?

A DNS error indicates that your web browser could not look up the numeric equivalent (IP address) of the text address (Domain or URL) that was entered into the location box or in the link you clicked on. This could be for several reasons:

1. The address of the site was misspelled by the person entering it in the Location blank, or by the person who set up the link.

2. You are actually not connected to the Internet, and so the address couldn't be found. Some dialers, especially the Windows 95/98 are particularly prone to not dialing in automatically. If this happens, try dialing in with your dialer utility before running your Internet Broswer.

3. You have the DNS server addresses entered incorrectly in your dialer configuration. Check the configuration of your dialer (the program you use to connect to the Internet) and make sure the DNS information is correct.
